![]() I get this same question from my clients every Fall: "Shouldn't I just wait until the new year to start my job search?" My answer is always the same, "Absolutely not. The holidays can be the single BEST time to look for a new job." Here's why. 1. Most of your competitors in the job market think the same thing and stop looking for jobs between November and January. That means less competition for those jobs you covet. 2. Work slows down a bit with so many people out of the office, so those who are working feel a little more available, and are more likely to say yes to your requests for informational interviews. 3. Many companies are on a calendar year for their budgets, meaning new positions are waiting to be filled in January. What better time to be recruiting for those positions than the end of the year? 4. People are more social during the holidays. You're attending more parties and social events. Take advantage of this natural networking space to make new contacts and spread the word that you're looking for your next great opportunity. So, don't put your job search on hold. Keep working it and take advantage of the many opportunities the holidays afford.
